What you'll actually do
- 01Listen to both sides of a dispute and remain neutral when one side is clearly being unreasonable
- 02Reframe hostile statements into constructive ones — 'he's a liar' becomes 'there seems to be a disagreement about the facts'
- 03Facilitate discussions that teeter between productive dialogue and a screaming match
- 04Draft settlement agreements in language both sides can live with
- 05Manage emotions in the room — yours included — when disputes get personal
- 06Bill hourly and hope the dispute resolves before both parties run out of money
