Terms of Service

Welcome to ShiftLadder. By using the site, you agree to these Terms. ShiftLadder is operated by Matt Kraus (“we,” “us”). If you don’t agree with these Terms, please don’t use the service.

1. What ShiftLadder Is

ShiftLadder is a career-exploration platform that helps you discover jobs, take career quizzes, match your resume to roles, and learn about different careers through written profiles and media. Information on the site is for educational purposes and is not financial, legal, medical, or career-counseling advice.

2. Accounts

• You must be at least 13 to use ShiftLadder. Users under 18 should have parental awareness.
• You’re responsible for keeping your account secure.
• You may close your account at any time by emailing us.
• We may suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Acceptable Use

Don’t:

• Upload someone else’s resume or personal data without permission.
• Attempt to scrape, reverse-engineer, or overload the service.
• Use ShiftLadder to harass, defraud, or harm others.
• Upload malware, illegal content, or content that violates others’ IP rights.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation with any organization.

4. Your Content

You keep ownership of everything you upload (resumes, submissions, saved data). You grant us a limited license to store and process that content solely to provide the service to you. We won’t use your resume or private quiz answers for public display, advertising, or AI model training.

5. Our Content

Job profiles, career path data, quiz questions, song lyrics, cover art, animations, branding, and other site content are owned by ShiftLadder or our licensors and protected by copyright and trademark laws. You may view and share links to pages for personal, non-commercial use. Don’t copy, republish, or resell our content without permission.

6. Third-Party Services

Sign-in uses Google OAuth. Analytics use PostHog. Hosting uses Vercel and Neon. These services have their own terms and privacy policies. ShiftLadder is not responsible for third-party services or external links.

7. Disclaimers

ShiftLadder is provided “as is.” Salary figures, job growth projections, and skill requirements are aggregated from public sources (including the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and O*NET) and may be out of date or inaccurate. Don’t make life decisions based solely on data from this site — talk to people actually doing the job.

We don’t guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or meet your specific career goals.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, ShiftLadder and Matt Kraus are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (or USD $50 if you paid nothing).

9. Changes to the Service

We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We may also update these Terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Termination

You can stop using ShiftLadder anytime. We can terminate or suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA, without regard to conflict of law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.
