You'll draw permanent art on strangers' bodies while they try not to flinch. It's part fine art, part customer service, part pain management. You'll spend years as an apprentice cleaning stations and drawing flash before anyone lets you near skin. But once you build a book and a reputation, you've got a career where every single day is different and every piece is a conversation between you and the person wearing it forever.

What you'll actually do

• 01Consult with clients on design ideas, placement, and sizing
• 02Draw custom designs and prepare stencils
• 03Set up workstation — needles, ink, barriers, everything sterile
• 04Tattoo clients (sessions range from 30 minutes to 8 hours)
• 05Explain aftercare instructions knowing half of them will ignore everything you said
• 06Sterilize equipment and maintain a spotless workspace
• 07Talk someone out of their ex's name for the third time this week
