Family Therapist

You treat families as systems, not just collections of individuals — which means you're in a room with parents, children, and sometimes grandparents, all talking over each other about different versions of the same problem. You'll address dysfunction, improve communication, and help families see patterns they've been repeating for generations. It's like defusing a bomb, except the bomb has feelings and a teenager who won't put down their phone.

What you'll actually do

• 01Facilitate sessions with entire families where everyone is the identified patient and nobody thinks they're the problem
• 02Identify multigenerational patterns that have been repeating for decades and nobody noticed until now
• 03Help parents and children communicate across generational gaps that feel like canyons
• 04Navigate blended family dynamics where step-parents, ex-spouses, and half-siblings all have different loyalties
• 05Create treatment plans that address the family system, not just the kid everyone brought in as 'the problem'
• 06Maintain therapeutic boundaries when families try to recruit you to their side of the argument
