Trash Collector

You'll ride on the back of a truck at 5 AM picking up everyone's garbage. It smells exactly like you think it does. But here's what nobody tells you: it's a union job with real benefits, a pension, and overtime that adds up fast. You'll be done by early afternoon while office workers are still in meetings about meetings. The work is honest, physical, and recession-proof — people always make trash.

What you'll actually do

• 01Ride on the back of the truck and load cans into the hopper
• 02Operate automated side-loader arms on newer trucks
• 03Drive the collection route (with CDL)
• 04Sort recyclables and marvel at what people think is recyclable (it's not, Karen)
• 05Report missed pickups and route hazards
• 06Deal with cans that weigh way more than they should
• 07Finish your route by 1 PM and enjoy your afternoon
