Volunteer Firefighter / Recruit

You'll train nights and weekends for zero pay because apparently risking your life is a hobby now. You'll run drills, clean equipment, and respond to calls alongside career firefighters who treat you like a little sibling — half mentoring, half hazing. It's the entry ticket to a career that actually means something, and the camaraderie alone is worth more than the paycheck you're not getting.

What you'll actually do

• 01Attend weekly drill nights and weekend training sessions while working your actual paying job
• 02Learn to drag a charged hose line up stairs without tripping over it (harder than it sounds)
• 03Clean and maintain apparatus because the new person always cleans
• 04Respond to pages at 3 AM and still show up to your day job at 7
• 05Study for Firefighter I & II certifications on your own time
• 06Get hazed with extra chores and take it because that's how it works
• 07Slowly realize this unpaid gig is the most meaningful thing you've ever done
