Military Service Member

You signed a contract and now the government owns your haircut, your schedule, and your ability to grow a beard. Free healthcare, free housing, free meals — but nothing is actually free, and you'll pay for it in 0500 wake-ups and PowerPoint briefings that could've been emails. You'll see the world, but mostly the inside of barracks and motor pools. The camaraderie is unmatched — you'll make friends who'd take a bullet for you. And so is the paperwork. You will fill out forms about forms.

What you'll actually do

• 04Sit through PowerPoint briefings that could've been an email — or honestly not sent at all
• 05Discover your MOS sounded cool in recruiting but 90% of it is maintenance and paperwork
• 06Experience the chow hall, which is simultaneously the best and worst restaurant you've ever been to
• 07Call everyone by their last name like you're in a movie, except it's just Tuesday and you're mopping
